Choosing a Cardio Machine
The standard treadmill is probably the most flexible piece of cardio equipment in the gym. You can run, jog, or walk on it, and most machines are capable of inclining to simulate going uphill. The drawbacks to a treadmill is that running or jogging on them can eventually cause you knee pain, because the machine is not very forgiving, like most outdoor tracks are. I recommend treadmills for walking, or for running on rainy days. Otherwise, outdoor tracks are better on the joints, with the added bonus of fresh air. Additionally, treadmills have handles that allow you to lean on the machine. This can be a nice assist when your workout starts to get difficult, but it can also become a crutch, and ultimately take away from the benefits of your workout.
The second machine we will be looking at is the stair-climber. This machine is probably the most feared cardio machine in the gym, because nobody wants to put themselves through climbing endless flights of stairs. The stair-climber gets a bad rap. The same reason why it is so avoided is the same reason why it is so beneficial. It burns a lot of calories, and gets the job done. Climbing stairs is an excellent way to build your leg muscles and burn fat. The drawbacks to this machine are that the handles allow you to support your weight with your arms, taking the emphasis off of your legs, and making your workout easier, and that the steps you take are usually different sizes. Most stair-climbers are not reverse-escalators, and have two pedals instead of stairs. For this reason, a stair-climber in a gym does not directly translate to climbing actual stairs.
The third machine is the glider. This is the machine with you handles, and the motion looks like cross country skiing. This machine provides the least benefit, and not surprisingly, it is very popular. This is because it does not require as much effort as other machines. Some people claim that this machine is fantastic, but the gliding motion does not require much effort and the machine does not do much for building muscle either.
The last machine we will discuss is the exercise bike. The bike comes in two main types: upright and recumbent. The latter is much more comfortable for long workouts. The bike can be a good workout, or a waste of time. It is probably the best machine for long workouts, because it is comfortable. And, because you are sitting down, you can read a book or magazine while you work out. The drawback to this machine is that it is easy to forget that you are working out, and then slow down, making your workout pointless.

How to Boost Your Brain Power with Home Fitness Exercise Equipment
Exercise, particularly aerobic exercise can greatly affect the brain by boosting memory and cognitive processing speed. What does that mean? In short, exercise can create a stronger, faster brain. Cool, huh? And guess what? It works for children too. Studies conducted by the University of Illinois scientists concluded that children who have a higher level of aerobic activity processed information more efficiently. As a mom with school-aged children, this is very interesting to me. All sorts of family fitness activities are running through my brain right now….
However, if you’re new to this whole process, it’s best to start slowly and build up your stamina to avoid injury that is common to to people who try to do too much, too soon or people who exercise incorrectly. Of course, many people think about joining a gym or exercising outside, which is great….but you may also want to consider home fitness exercise equipment as well.
While doing aerobic exercises, you are getting much needed oxygen to your body. Aerobic is “with air” or “oxygen” by definition. So you will see a benefit at a cardiovascular and pulmonary level, as well as a difference in your waist line. These types of exercises are the most effective in burning calories as long as they last more than 30-45 minutes. Again, you’ll want to build up to level slowly. Aerobic exercise in 3 ten minute sessions are equally effective. Using a piece of home fitness exercise equipment is a great way to accomplish a few shorter workouts because you can hop on for 10 minutes at a time, then go back to whatever you were doing.
The process of anaerobic exercise is responsible for increasing muscle mass and for bone density. Examples of anaerobic exercises include weight lifting, sit ups, chin ups, squats, push ups, etc. The effectiveness of fitness trainings is closely related to their weekly practice.
For a whole body training, you should combine aerobic and anaerobic exercises. A good routine to get into is aerobic activity 3 times a week for 30-60 minutes each time, and at least twice a week for muscle building.
If you continue this routine of exercise, you’ll definitely start seeing results in one month. It’s possible to lose 2 inches of your size….maybe more.
A really good way to incorporate exercise into your life is through the use of home fitness exercise equipment. While the weather is nice, you can get outside and make the most of your surroundings, but in order to keep up with your routine, you’ll need to bring your exercising indoors at some point and time. After all your hard work during the spring and summer, you don’t want to fall off the wagon in the winter, right?
Let’s get out there and boost our health, stamina, and our brain power!!

Overview Of Commercial Elliptical Machines
One of the best ways to get a cardio workout is by using an elliptical training machine. There are many models available for home and commercial use. So what is the difference between the two?
Home elliptical machines can be purchased with a range of features from the most basic model to a commercial grade unit. If you take the reviews as evidence, apparently you get what you pay for.
Commercial elliptical machines can be found in therapy offices, doctor’s offices, fitness centers, gyms and just about anywhere else you can go to work out. Usually, these models are feature packed and run into the thousands of dollars ($4000 is the median). Although the commercial models can have the same features as a residential one, the difference is the quality of the construction. This justifies the price tag.
Commercial elliptical machines can monitor your heart, breathing and pulse with additional items sold separately. Of course these additional items cost additional money. Most commercial elliptical machines provide not only the walking simulation for cardio, but also an upper body workout as well.
The Nordic Track brand was the first one I remember seeing and it was marketed as a simulator of cross-country skiing. Perhaps this was the basis for the rest of the industry to add in the upper body workout portion.
In any event, commercial elliptical machines are basically built stronger and more durable to withstand prolonged, continuous use. One machine may be used 20 or 30 times a day in some gyms, maybe more. They are equipped with stronger motors, better drive systems, advanced cardiac monitoring systems, softer, more fluid stepping action and even laptop or personal stereo holders, if you want to work or listen to music as you exercise.
There are, of course, other options and features, too. This is just an overview of commercial elliptical machines. When looking at commercial elliptical machines, the best brands to look at are:
Precor
Fitnex
Star Trac
Stairmaster
These are top quality brands and will carry a top quality price tag as well, but they have been reviewed as the best commercial elliptical machines by consumers. All have several models to choose from and can be delivered anywhere in the world.
Commercial elliptical machines are preferred over treadmills. This is due to the low impact of the elliptical machine on the feet. Joint and ankle pain was a complaint of people using treadmills for a long period of time. While treadmills are still used widely, elliptical machines are fast becoming the preferred machine to use. With an elliptical training machine, there is no impact on the feet at all, as on a treadmill. This alleviates the foot, ankle and heel injuries to a great extent.
